Catalyst – production of petroleum resins
Recently another high temperature FUNDABAC® Filter system has been delivered to one of our Chinese clients. The filter is running at 260ºC and recovers catalyst from a hydrogenation reactor in the production of petroleum resins. The unit is designed for hazardous area with all equipment fully explosion proof. In the meantime DrM has accumulated significant experience in designing equipment for high temperature applications such as these. Our special stainless steel filter media are designed to withstand the temperatures as well as the harsh mechanical stress during cake drying and discharge. The solids are removed into a separate sluice where they can cool down and then be discharged as dry powder for recovery of the precious metal. Our scope covers complete packages including valves, instruments, cabling and pneumatic tubing. Process control can be done through a local PLC or a central DCS. DrM can also be of help in designing control concepts.
Petroleum resins are mainly applied as tackifiers in the formulation of adhesives. They are low molecular-weight compounds with high glass-transition temperatures to have the visco-elastic behaviours required to give stickiness on the surface. They are applied in sticky tapes for packaging as well as in hot melt adhesives. The market of such adhesives has increased significantly due to mail order businesses.
